I’m tackling an American classic today. Pork Steaks. Thick and juicy, this Pork Steak Recipe is going to be full of flavor and cooked to perfection. I kept this recipe simple, using only a few ingredients that will enhance the natural pork flavor. This dish can be an alternative to beef steaks that everyone will love.

Ah, pork. No matter what form it comes in, it's a delicious treat to the taste buds. Pork steak is versatile and easy to cook. You can’t really overcook it, so this is a great meat for beginners. This BBQ pork steak is going to be flavorful and juicy, with hints of seasoning but nothing overpowering. You can cook it up for family dinner or for a special occasion. Either way, it will be a surefire crowd pleaser. 

The Ingredients

Using simple ingredients for this dish made it easy to shop for. 

• Pork steaks. I got these cuts at my local butcher shop, The Butcher Shoppe in Southaven MS.  
• Olive oil. With its savoriness and moisture olive oil works as a great binder for any spices you add to meat. 
• Heath Riles BBQ Garlic Jalapeño Rub. Packed with flavor and a little bit of heat, you can’t go wrong using this rub on everything. 
• Heath Riles BBQ Sweet BBQ Rub. The sweetness of this rub is complemented by a little heat on the backend. 
• Cooking oil. Using this keeps the steaks from sticking and creating a mess. 
• Heath Riles BBQ Sweet BBQ Sauce. Sweetness and savoriness combine to make your meat dish unbelievably moist and tasty. 

The Equipment Setup

• PK 360 Grill. I’ll be using my PK grill with a 2-zone fire to cook these pork steaks with perfect heat and smoke. 
• Royal Oak Charcoal. This charcoal always gives my meat dishes a fantastic flavor and complements all my rubs nicely. 
• Royal Oak Tumbleweeds. Building a 2-zone fire is easier with tumbleweeds. 

The Process for Making BBQ Pork Steaks

• Unpackage the steaks. I took my steaks out of the packaging and they looked trimmed and good. I laid them on a cooling rack and dried them off. 
• Add the binder. Drizzling olive oil on the pork steaks, I made sure to cover the back, front, and sides, rubbing it in with my hand.
• Season the steaks. I started with my Garlic Jalapeño Rub, laying down a nice layer on the steaks. I followed it up with my Sweet Rub. Then I turned them over and did the same thing on the back side.
• Let them set. Stashing them back in the fridge, I let the seasonings sweat into the steaks while the grill came up to temp.
• Prepare the grill. Once the coals and tumbleweed was lit, I poured them out on the grill, creating a 2-zone fire.
• Put ‘em on the grill. First, I sprayed the grates with cooking oil to prevent sticking, then I laid the steaks directly on the hot side of the grill. Hearing that sear was music to my ears. I’m only leaving them for 2 and a half minutes, so I set a timer on my phone.
• Spin and turn. When the timer went off, I used a metal spatula to turn the steaks, then shut the lid. 2 and a half more minutes, and  flipped them. The char was looking good!
• Add some sauce. I set my time for another 2 and a half minutes, but decided to add my Sweet BBQ Sauce to the pork steaks now so it could get some char. I poured it right out of the bottle, working it in with a silicone basting brush.
• Spin and turn until done. I continued by spinning and turning every 2 and a half minutes until the steaks were done. They had a total cook time of about 10 minutes when I moved them to the cool zone of the grill. I added a layer of my Sweet BBQ Sauce to the other side of the steaks. I put a thermometer in them, closed the lid, and let them come up to temp.
• Remove from the grill. After 15 minutes on the cool side of the grill, the steaks were clocking an internal temp of 170 degrees F. I took them off the grill and laid them on a platter to rest for 10 minutes.
• Serve them up. All that’s left to do now is enjoy the finished results. 

The Results

I cut into the pork steak and it was so tender and juicy. Taking a bite, I was really happy with the char and all the flavor from the seasonings and the sauce. The meat itself was packed with taste. I got hints of smoke from the grill and all the other flavors. Man, this was a delicious take on pork steaks. I’ll definitely make this dish again. It was so simple!

Serving Suggestions for BBQ Pork Steaks

One steak per person along with a baked potato, asparagus, macaroni and cheese, or green beans makes a hearty, delicious meal. 

Storing Them

Pack up any leftovers in an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to 3 days.
